You’ve heard of Mukbang? An online trend in which people film themselves eating copius amounts of food so that people can watch them eat?
Recently I learned that the trend started as a way of “eating together.” In Korea (where it originated), the OG Mukbangers saw it as a way to connect people who lived alone, after a study suggested lonely people feel the most lonely when they’re eating dinner by themselves.
Our B.Y.O. Dinner gathering is just an experiment. We figured if people—even if it’s only one person—felt like eating alongside other people, we’d open the shop and provide a space for that to happen. Our Rookery (the gathering room) will be open from 5-6:30PM, one day a month. Bring your own dinner, cutlery if you need it, etc. We don’t have any kitchen space, so we can’t offer to wash or cook, but we can set up tables and chairs, put out some serviettes, and people can eat.
Come as a group. Come as yourself. Chat with the others, or just enjoy your dinner on your own in The Rookery.
